About
Organizer:
Advanced Intelligent Multidisciplinary Systems Lab (AIMS Lab) and Bangladesh Research and Awareness Initiative of Neuroscience (BRAIN, Proposed Neuroscience Society of Bangladesh), United International University (UIU), Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Aims and Scope of the School
The aims of 5-day “2nd IBRO-APRC Bangladesh Associate School of Translational Neuroscience and Research” is to provide a platform for postgraduate (Masters and PhD) and undergraduate (MBBS, Biomedical Engineering, and other related disciplines) students (from Bangladesh and the Asia-Pacific region) interested in the field of neuroscience to expand their understanding of basic neuroscience and neural engineering, and translate this knowledge into clinical neuroscience for researching and developing novel therapies for intervention and rehabilitation of neural diseases. This school will bring distinguished researchers in the field of neuroscience to teach the knowledge of basic and translational neuroscience as well as neural engineering. The future goal of the School is to involve students, teachers, and practitioners in neuroscience research and develop their own research skills in this field and apply acquired knowledge to improve novel therapies for intervention, rehabilitation, and treatment of neurological diseases. The development of such research capacity will help to create awareness and educate preventive measures on neurological diseases to the people.
Description
The school will be held in conjunction with Neuroscience Awareness and Education week initiated by Bangladesh Research and Awareness Initiative of Neuroscience (BRAIN), and AIMS Lab, so that it will help us to reach participants from educational institutes and hospitals all over the country interested in neuroscience research. Importantly, this will take a new step in creating awareness for the students from Bangladesh and the Asia-Pacific region to engage with neuroscience research. Moreover, the participants will acquire new knowledge of neuroscience and neural engineering research that may be beneficial to their future research. This intensive school aims to provide a holistic perspective of the cutting edge intervention techniques used in clinical and basic neuroscience, to enable participants in performing competitive neuroscience and neural engineering research. The school will provide a 5-day comprehensive course program including lectures, workshop and panel discussion associated with basic knowledge of neuroscience, neurophysiological and electrophysiological basis of CNS function, brain plasticity, abnormal neurotransmitter in neurodegenerative diseases, brain signal for early detection of neurodegenerative diseases, functional roles of neural brain circuits in decision making, translational research in neuropsychiatric diseases, depression diagnosis and therapy, Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson’s disease, understanding spinal cord injury and functional recovery from spinal cord injury and neural engineering, and brain-computer interface as well as neuroscience research methodology. Gathering knowledge and understanding on these topics during the 5-days workshop will take a new step in creating awareness to the students and practitioners to engage with neuroscience research. Moreover, the participants will acquire new knowledge of neural engineering techniques like Deep Brain Stimulation for treating neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, Bangladesh Research and Awareness Initiative of Neuroscience plans to host the BRAIN Symposium 2019 on December 4-8, 2019, a one-day symposium with talks by leading neuroscientists, poster and oral presentations on various topics such as brain health, disease, and intervention.
